The year-end pack, and what it honestly does not contain

Year end is usually a fortnight of emails asking for one more thing. This gathers what an accountant actually asks for into a single download — and then, unusually, tells you what is not in it, because a pack described as everything that quietly omits your mileage is how the fortnight of emails starts again.

What it does

What is in the pack?

The invoices you raised, the payments you took, credit notes and refunds, the costs recorded against jobs, and the standing costs. In other words the things an accountant asks for first, in one download rather than five exports put together by hand.

Why does it list what is missing?

Because a file described as complete is the one nobody checks. Anything the business has not recorded — cash work never entered, mileage nobody logged, receipts still in the van — cannot be in the pack, and saying so is the difference between your accountant knowing to ask and finding out in March.

Does it know when my year ends?

Yes, from your own financial year end rather than assuming April. A limited company with a thirty-first of March year end and a sole trader on the tax year get the right period without anybody choosing dates by hand.

Can I close the period off properly?

Yes, and it walks you through what is outstanding first: work finished and not billed, jobs with no price, hours nobody clocked. A period signed off knowing what was in it is worth considerably more than one that was signed off because a date passed.

Can my accountant get it themselves?

Yes, if you have given them a sign-in. Most of the point is that nobody has to email anybody — they look when they need to, and the pack is there whenever either of you wants a file.

What it does not do

Worth knowing before you spend an afternoon on it rather than after.

It is not a set of accounts and must not be filed as one. It is the records behind them.

It does not include anything you never entered. Cash jobs, unlogged mileage and receipts still in the van are not in it, which is exactly why the list of what is missing exists.

Photographs and uploaded documents are not bundled in. They are downloaded separately.

Nothing is filed with HMRC or Companies House from here.

Questions, answered

What is in the year-end records pack?

Invoices, payments, credit notes and refunds, job costs and standing costs, in one download — the things an accountant asks for first.

Does it say what is not included?

Yes, which is unusual and deliberate. Anything the business never recorded cannot be in the pack, and naming it is how your accountant knows to ask.

Does it use my own financial year end?

Yes, rather than assuming April, so a company year end and a sole trader's tax year both come out right.

What does it cost?

£29.99 a month for the whole business — every feature, every person, no add-ons and no per-user pricing. 60 days free and no card to start.
