The export, in detail
Software you cannot get out of is software with a reason for making it hard. So the export is deliberately complete and deliberately dull: every customer, every quote and its lines, every job, every invoice, every payment — as CSV files that open in Excel or Numbers and make sense with no software of ours anywhere near them.
Two details that sound like fussing and are not. Any cell beginning with =, +, - or @ is a formula as far as Excel is concerned, and these files are full of text somebody typed — so every one is neutralised before it is written. And the files carry a byte order mark, without which Excel renders every pound sign and every Welsh accent as mojibake. An export nobody can open is not an export.
The binding versions
Nothing on this page is a new promise — it is the existing ones, written where somebody deciding whether to trust us will actually read them. The versions that count are the privacy notice, the sub-processor list and the terms.
Task My Job Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a UK data controller. If you have a question this page does not answer, ask it — the contact form reaches a person.
Questions, answered
Where is my data physically held?
The live database is in AWS eu-west-2 (London) and file storage is in Vercel's London region. Vercel and Neon are US-incorporated companies, so limited support access from outside the UK is possible, and that is set out in the privacy notice rather than glossed over. The privacy notice is also where the current position on backup storage is stated, and it is the version that counts.
Can I get my data out?
Yes, in one click, by the business owner, whenever you like. Every customer, quote, job, invoice, payment and line item as spreadsheets you can open in Excel or Numbers without TaskMyJob. No notice period, no charge, no form to fill in, and you do not have to be leaving.
Why only the owner?
Because it is the whole customer list, every price and every margin the business has — the one thing that should leave only by the decision of the person who owns it. Not an area, not a manager, not the office. It is checked on the server, in the route, rather than by hiding a button.
Is it backed up?
Yes, and in a way that survives us. The database host keeps a short rolling history, and on top of that an encrypted copy of the whole database is taken every night and stored off-site with a different company — because a backup held inside the same account and the same billing relationship as the app is not a backup against that account going wrong. A restore from one of those backups is tested automatically on the first of every month, because a backup nobody has ever restored is a hope rather than a backup.
Who else can see it?
Only the suppliers needed to run the service, and every one of them is named on the sub-processor list with what they do and where they are. Your data is not sold, is not shared with advertisers and is not used to train anything.
What happens if I stop paying?
Take your export first — it is one click and there is no notice period, so nothing has to be rushed. Our retention and deletion terms are in the privacy notice rather than in sales copy, where they belong.
Does the assistant read my data to answer questions?
Taylor answers from your own business's data and from the guides, and it never leaves our systems to do it — there is no language model API behind it and nothing of yours is sent to one. Which organisation it reads comes from your session rather than from the question, so it cannot be asked about somebody else's business.
