Ask for a photo before a job can be finishedNew

Off by default. Turn it on and your engineer cannot finish a job without a photo or a video on it — proof you can look at, before the work is signed off.

Asking for a photo or a video on a job before it can be finished.
What is said in this recording

Some work has to be evidenced before it can be billed — a housing association will not pay on a job with no picture against it. Other work never needs one. This is where you say which you are, and it changes nothing until you do.

Step by step

  1. 1

Go to Settings, then How you work.

  2. 2

    Find “Finishing a job”.

  3. 3

Leave it unticked to carry on as you are.

Your team finishes a job whenever the work is done. The app still asks for a photo on the way out — it just never insists.

  4. 4

Tick it to ask for a photo or a video first.

The Complete button on the engineer’s phone waits until there is at least one photo or video on that job, and says so in words rather than just going grey.

  5. 5

    Save.

Worth knowing

A voice note or a typed note does not count

The point is something somebody can look at. A voice note is a record of what was said, and a note is typed — both are still worth adding, and both still leave the Finish button waiting.

Any photo on the job counts — not only one taken at the end

A photo added when they arrived, or against extra work they found, satisfies it. That is deliberate: an engineer who photographed the finished work an hour ago should not be told to photograph it again, and nothing here claims the picture proves the job is finished. Only you can tell that by looking at it.

It applies to the people doing the work

You and anyone in the office can still complete a job from its own page. If a van has gone and a job has to be closed, nobody is stuck.

Why it is not called proof of completion

It stops a job being completed without a picture, and that is all it claims. Nothing here can tell a finished bathroom from a started one — only you can, by looking at the photo. If you need a signed-off record that the work meets a standard, that is a certificate rather than evidence: see Build and use your own certificates.

Turning it on changes nothing already finished

Jobs completed before you ticked it stay exactly as they are. It only governs what happens from now on.

Think about where your team works

A loft, a plant room, a basement — a phone with no signal still takes the photo, and it uploads when the signal comes back. But if your team regularly works somewhere a photo genuinely cannot be taken, this will stand between them and finishing their day.
