Set your business upNew
The checklist on your dashboard: what is still to do, why each one matters, and how to say no to the ones you will never need.

What is said in this recording
When you first sign in there is a checklist at the top of your dashboard headed “Let’s get your business set up”. It is not a form and nothing has to be filled in — every line is a question asked of what you have already done, so it ticks itself off as you work. It takes itself off the dashboard once the essentials are behind you.
Step by step
- 1
Read the line under the heading.
“2 of 9 essentials done” counts the steps most businesses need. The ones marked Optional are not in that count, so the sums add up whether or not you want them.
- 2
Press any row to go straight to it.
The whole row is the link, and under each one is the reason it matters rather than just what it is. You can do them in any order.
- 3
Press “Not for us” on anything you will never need.
A sole trader will never connect accounting software and should not be asked about it every week. Saying no takes the step off the list for good.
- 4
Open “you said no to” if you change your mind.
Everything you have declined is kept there, with a “Put it back” button beside each one.
Worth knowing
Nothing here is tracked separately
Every tick is worked out from your real records — a customer existing, a price list having something in it, a quote having been built. Nothing has to be marked as done, and importing two hundred customers ticks the customer step exactly as typing one does.
Saying no is not the same as doing it
A declined step is never counted as finished. It simply stops being asked. If you later do it anyway, it shows as done — the facts always win over the decision.
What it will not tell you
It makes no promise about how long setting up takes. Nobody has timed a real business doing it, so it says how many steps are left and nothing more.
