Set a target, and read whether you are on for itNew
A number to aim at for the month, quarter or year — and the cases where the app deliberately refuses to judge you.
Written 21 October 2026
What is said in this recording
A target is a number you are trying to hit in a period. The useful part is not the number — it is knowing early whether you are on for it. Most of the care in this page went into the cases where it refuses to say, because a page that calls you behind on the second of the month is one nobody opens on the third.
Step by step
- 1
Go to Business Health, then Targets.
- 2
Pick the period along the top.
Targets are set for a month, a quarter or a year. Today and this week do not carry one.
- 3
Choose a figure and type the number you are aiming for, then press Set target.
Choosing from the list does nothing on its own — the button is what saves it.
- 4
Read the verdict beside each one.
On track, Behind, Hit, Missed, Too early to say, or Nothing recorded.
Worth knowing
It will not judge you in the first few days
Until about a fifth of the period has gone, the figure is shown and the verdict waits. One good invoice on the second of the month reads as four hundred per cent of pace, and one slow day reads as a crisis. Neither is worth acting on, so neither is reported.
The pace is arithmetic, not a forecast
“Pace right now” is where you would be if the period ran perfectly evenly. Work does not arrive evenly in a trade — a quiet fortnight and a busy one is normal — so read it as a checkpoint rather than a prediction. It is not claiming to know what the rest of the month holds.
Some figures build up and some are a level
“Invoiced £8,000 this month” builds up, so a third of the way through the month, about a third of it is the pace. “Win 95% of quotes” does not build up — it is whatever it is on the day — so it is judged against the number itself all the way through. The page knows which is which and will not tell you that you are two thirds of the way to a percentage.
Nothing recorded is not nought
If there is nothing in the system for a figure yet, the target reads “Nothing recorded” rather than 0%. This matters most when a target is set for a person: reporting somebody as having hit none of their target, when the truth is that nothing was written down, is unfair to them and useless to you.
Only an owner or a manager can set one
Including a target set for somebody else — a person cannot set their own. That is the same rule as approving a certificate: an authorisation everybody in the office holds is not an authorisation.
What it deliberately does NOT do
It does not predict whether you will hit the target, and it does not suggest what to do about being behind. It also does not notify anybody, chase anybody, or appear on anyone else's screen. It is a number and an honest verdict, nothing more.
