Bring your contacts in from your phoneNew
Send contacts across from an iPhone or an Android, then pick who becomes a customer.

What is said in this recording
Most of your customers are already in your phone. Rather than typing them in again, send them across as a contact file and pick who you want. It works the same on an iPhone and an Android, and nothing is added until you have looked at the list.
Step by step
- 1
On an iPhone: open Contacts, tap the person, then Share Contact, then Save to Files.
To send several at once, tap the list, press Edit or long-press a name, select everyone you want, then Share. Save it somewhere you can find again, like Downloads or On My iPhone.
- 2
On an Android: open Contacts, select who you want, then Share or Export.
Most phones offer “Export to .vcf file” or “Share as vCard”. Save it to the phone rather than sending it to anybody.
- 3
Or do it from a computer: email the file to yourself and open it there.
Nothing about this needs a phone. Google Contacts and Apple Contacts on a Mac export the whole address book in one go. Outlook's bulk export is a spreadsheet rather than a contact file, and that works here too — so does one you have typed yourself, as long as it has a column for the name.
- 4
In TaskMyJob, go to Customers and press Import contacts.
On an Android you may also be offered “Or pick from your contacts”, which skips the file step. That button only appears on phones whose browser supports it, which is why the file route is there for everyone.
- 5
Choose the file you just saved.
Everybody in it is listed with their phone number and email, already ticked.
- 6
Untick anyone you do not want, then press Add.
Nothing is saved until you press it. Anyone already on file is skipped rather than added twice, and you are told how many.
Worth knowing
House numbers come across, but not from the postcode
Whatever address is saved against the contact comes with them. Where a contact has only a postcode, the town is filled in from it when you open the record, but the house number and street are still yours to type.
Anything we have no box for is kept, not thrown away
If your file has columns we do not have a field for — a gate code, a key safe, a boiler model, your own account reference — they go onto the customer's notes with the column name in front, so they are on the customer page and they turn up in search. The import says what it found and you can untick it.
A business comes in as a business
A contact saved under a company name rather than a person's becomes a commercial customer, so the paperwork carries the company name and can take a purchase order.
Why there is no “pick from contacts” button on an iPhone
Apple keeps that feature switched off in Safari by default, so a button offering it would do nothing on most phones. The file route works on every phone, which is why it is the one we lead with.
